James Donald Babin

1931 ∼ 2026

James Donald Babin

James Donald Babin, a kind and gentle soul, passed away peacefully at his residence in Liberty, Texas, on November 1, 2026. He was born on January 12, 1931, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Curtis and Lucille Babin.

James was a man who truly loved life and cherished the people around him. He found enjoyment in fishing and hunting, but his greatest joy was the time he spent with his sons, Steve and “Danny”, and those he lovingly referred to as his “Little Darlins.” He had a special love for gardening and took great pride in the bountiful harvests he shared with family and friends. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He carried the pride of his service with him throughout his life, and his dedication to his country was another part of the legacy he leaves behind.

A true gentleman in every sense of the word, James was known for his thoughtful ways and kind gestures, whether opening a door or pulling his vehicle close to spare someone from walking in the rain. It was the little things that meant so much to him and reflected the love he had for others. He enjoyed making homemade wine, listening to honky-tonk music, and watching Westerns. Always willing to lend a helping hand, James never met a stranger. His wonderful sense of humor, playful pranks, and ability to bring a smile to someone's face made him a joy to be around. He was truly a prankster at heart and had a way of making every moment a little brighter.

James was a retired machinist who dedicated many years of service to the Texaco Refinery. He was also talented in the art of taxidermy, a craft that reflected his patience, skill, and appreciation for the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Babin; his mother, Lucille Babin; his wife, Gloria Mae Babin, his son, Daniel “Danny” Babin; and his brothers, Tommy Babin and Robert “Bobby” Babin.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Steve Babin; grandchildren, Lanna Scroggins and husband Jerred, Alisa LeBlanc, and Deanna Haynes; great-grandchildren, Elias Blanco, Timothy LeBlanc, Keyli Scroggins, Eleyna Dominguez, Matias Dominguez, Luke Scroggins, Avia Gomez, Keorey Rideau, Nadia Haynes, and Anelise Holcomb; and daughter-in-law, Dana LeBlanc. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Faith and Family Funeral Services, located at 40847 TX-105, Batson, Texas 77519. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Faith and Family Funeral Services, with Jerred Scroggins officiating. A graveside service will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Hemphill, Texas 75948.

James will be remembered for his gentle heart, generous spirit, quick wit, and the love he so freely shared. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories, laughter, and love he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Mike Connally November 3, 2026
Jimmy was my Godfather and best friend to my Dad, D.P. Connally. I went on many hunts and fishing trips with him. I once bought a black Mustang Mach 1 and then he bought a red one. I asked him how he was going to pull his bass boat with this muscle car. He said, "very fast".
