A Life Remembered

Obituary

Linda JoAnn Cook Peters, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, in Houston, Texas. Born on August 28, 1948, in Port Arthur, Texas, Linda lived a life full of warmth and dedication to those she loved. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Richard Allen "RA" Cook and Vivian Miller Cook, and her dear son, Shane Byron Ramke.

Linda was a proud graduate of Nederland High School Class of 1966, where she was a Westernaire. She was the legal secretary for David Provost with Provost & Umphrey law firm for many years and retired from Stephen’s Baldo and Freeman to her favorite role as “Honey” to her grandchildren. Linda enjoyed being active, walking, exercising, hiking in her travels, and also was proud to donate her time to local charities. Her other past times included extensive reading, listening to live bands, going two-stepping any chance she could, beach glass combing, the excitement of traveling, and the joy of gardening, where she loved to work in her yard. She also found pleasure in long walks and time with her beloved dog Vino, cooking delicious meals, spending time with friends, and visiting plant nurseries.

Above all, Linda cherished time spent with her family and grandchildren. She was immensely proud of them and always present to support them at their school accomplishments, sports events, dance recitals, and Indianette performances. Her warm smile and presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew her.

Linda is survived by her loving daughter, Erin Prioux and her husband, Dr. David Prioux, Jr. of Port Neches; her devoted grandchildren, Danyel Meyer and her husband, Sam of Lake Jackson, Grace Prioux of Port Neches, and Isaac Prioux of Port Neches; and her great-grandchildren, Macy Meyer and Jaxon Meyer. She also leaves behind her brother, James Cook and his wife Theresa of College Station, and a large extended family and many close friends who will miss her dearly.

Linda’s Celebration of Life was a beautiful reflection of the amazing woman she was. From all of the heartfelt stories and testaments shared, it was clear that Linda touched so many lives and was truly an extraordinary person. My heart goes out to her family as you were her most cherished aspect of her life. Linda was genuinely one of a kind—kind, caring, and authentic. I feel so blessed to have worked with her and called her my friend. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, compassion, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest in peace, sweet Linda. ❤️

I met Linda working together at Provost Umphrey Law Firm. She was the sweetest in all she did to help me with whatever I needed. I remember her beautiful smile and happy attitude. I've missed her since she left PU but kept up with her on Facebook. I hope I come across some pictures from parties at PU to share with her family. Penny she is with you always and will let you know threw GodWinks that she's ok and still around. My condolences to Linda's family.
