Shirley Veronica Stacey, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, in Orange, Texas. Born on January 4, 1931, in Syracuse, New York, Shirley lived a life marked by remarkable resilience, warmth, and unwavering love for her family.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Shirley faced a significant challenge early in life, developing a lifelong disability after surviving Polio in 1934. Yet, she famously never allowed it to define her or slow her down. Her spirit was truly amazing; she worked as a nutritionist at Geneva College, lovingly raised her children, cooked delicious meals, and even mastered tying her shoes with one hand, always refusing to use her disability as an excuse.
Beyond her incredible determination, Shirley found joy in many passions. She loved to knit and crochet, creating beautiful pieces. Her favorite place was Oneida Lake, where she cherished spending almost every summer, creating lasting memories. To her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as "Gigi," a testament to the special bond she shared with them. Above all, Shirley's family was her world, and she poured her heart into every relationship.
Shirley was preceded in death by her dear parents, Manley and Lauretta Jennings; her beloved husband, Robert Paul Stacey; her cherished son, Andrew Stacey; her siblings, Frannie, Rita, and William.
She leaves behind a loving legacy, survived by her devoted sons, Michael Stacey and his wife Kristie, and Robert Stacey and his wife Robin. She will be deeply missed by her eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. Shirley is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marianne Uhl; her special "partner in crime," Liz Nash; and numerous other loving family members and friends whose lives she touched with her gentle spirit.
Shirley's remarkable strength, loving heart, and gentle presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
