It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stedman Tahaney, who departed this life on September 8, 2026, in Groves, Texas. Born on July 31, 1938, Stedman lived a full and vibrant life, cherished by his family and friends, especially his devoted wife of 65 years, Gail Tahaney. His presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
Stedman found immense joy in his passions, whether he was on the golf course, shooting hoops on the basketball court, or knocking down pins at the bowling alley. He was a true enthusiast of sports and life, and his unwavering love for Texas A&M University was a source of great pride and spirited conversation throughout his years. These activities brought him great happiness and connected him with many dear friends.
Stedman was always proud of his country and dedicated his service by serving in the United States Army.
Stedman’s legacy will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Gail Tahaney. He is also survived by his sons, Bryan Tahaney of Groves, and Casey Tahaney and his wife, Sara of Bridge City, his daughter-in-law, Rhonda Mahaffey and her husband, Brandon of Beaumont, his grandchildren, Craig Tahaney, II, Ashlin Tahaney, Jacob Tahaney, and Jillian Tahaney, as well as his brother, Mickey Tahaney and his wife, Raquel of Port Arthur. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Charles and Katie Tahaney; his brothers, Tommy Tahaney and Pat Tahaney; his sister, Charlotte Warren; and his son, Craig Tahaney, who undoubtedly welcomed him home.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by a service to celebrate Stedman’s life at 11:00 am. Both will be held at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 5601 39th Street, Groves, Texas. Following the service, a graveside service will be held at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, where Stedman will be laid to rest. His memory will forever be a cherished treasure in the hearts of all who knew him.
